Eagles Second Place In ACCA National Tournament
A long road trip turned into an even longer tournament run for the West Coast Baptist College Eagles. After twenty hours on the road, the basketball team arrived at the Association of Christian College Athletics national tournament in Bethany, Oklahoma. They were seeded third among eight teams and were first slotted to play Ozark Christian College. The Ambassadors from Ozark found themselves down by twenty in the first half due to the stifling defense by the Eagles. In the second half, however, they fought back to come within three points, but West Coast shut the door and preserved their lead. The final score was 90-79.
The second game of the tournament for the Eagles was against the host team, Southwestern Christian University. It was a tight game throughout with the Eagles down by nine at the half. The Eagles fought back and eventually built a ten point lead in the second half. The game literally came down to the last second when freshman, T.J. Tibbs, hit a free throw to send West Coast into their first national title game by the score of 87-86.
On Saturday night not only did the Eagles play their last game of the season, but senior Danny Galdamez also played his last game of his career. Playing against Dallas Christian College, the number one seed of the tournament, the Eagles were defeated, securing them the second place position in the ACCA National Tournament. Danny Galdamez and Matt Osborn were named to the all-tournament team, and Galdamez was also awarded an honorable mention for All-American.
