2 Churches Chartered in El Salvador

May 04, 2012

Within forty-eight hours, two new churches were born. On March 7 and 8, Iglesia Bautista Emmanuel of Cojutepeque, El Salvador, and Iglesia Bautista Fundamental of Metapán, El Salvador, held their chartering services. Both were emotional services—and the culmination of years of preparation by the missionaries, hundreds of hours of soulwinning, and scores of people being saved and growing in their new faith. Dr. Chappell preached both chartering services and encouraged the congregations in their new lives as churches.

Kyle Charters (pictured above), pastor of the newly formed Iglesia Bautista Fundamental, is a missionary sent from Lancaster Baptist Church. He and his family served in Russia for several years before the Lord redirected them to El Salvador.

Adam Fridenstine, pastor of Iglesia Bautista Emmanuel, is a graduate of West Coast Baptist College with his wife, Esther. The Fridenstines are sent from LBC as well.

Pastor Fridenstine also leads a Christian school that works in conjunction with the church. The same week that these two churches opened their doors, the Christian school held a banquet commemorating its 50th anniversary. Students from WCBC helped pass out invitations and Gospel tracts in the town square, and over 100 visitors came to the banquet and heard the Gospel.

While in El Salvador, Dr. Chappell held training sessions with dozens of national pastors. Because of the growing need for Bible education in the country, WCBC is ramping up an extension campus in El Salvador where WCBC faculty will teach block classes to ministry leaders in Central America.

The Lord blessed in so many ways and touched the hearts of the WCBC students who participated. Oscar Cazun, Jr., WCBC student from Lancaster, California, said, “It touched my heart to see how open they are.” The trip changed Oscar’s attitude toward missions. “When I was a teen, I never would have wanted to go to the mission field. Now, I’m willing to go wherever God wants me to go.”

God is still using the Gospel to touch lives, no matter where it is preached. “I saw how Lancaster Baptist has impacted people around the world,” said Oscar, “What’s done in Lancaster is the way it’s done in those churches. The services are the same. The soulwinning is the same. It’s a model.”
